Mimi Doran
Mimi Doran is a teacher, lecturer and communications advocate with interests in social justice, media literacy, art, documentary making and participatory approaches to learning, research and communications. Mimi lectured on the Equality and the Media Module on the Masters Programme at the Equality Studies Centre, School of Social Justice, University College Dublin for over 10 years. In 2013 Mimi was awarded a Masters in Broadcast production in Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art Design and Technology. In 2011 Mimi completed a PhD in Media Literacy, News Making and Social Activism at the School of Social Justice, UCD and she was awarded a Masters of Equality Studies, UCD in 2006. She also has a Higher Diploma in Teacher Training and a Degree in Fine Art from Limerick School of Art and Design. She won the IADT RTE Broadcast Award 2013 for radio and TV production work. She is a Director of Arts Shift (a diverse group of artists, creators and academics who come together to create partnerships, projects, exhibitions and workshops). Mimi currently works with Junior Cycle for Teachers as part of the Associate Whole School Support Team. She is involved in the design and delivery of Continuing Professional Development and facilitates schools’ development of learning, teaching and assessment. Mimi sees both education and media as hugely influential in how people perceive themselves and others in society.
